Lower Merion Police have charged John Kane, 35, with 20 felony counts arising out of Kane’s alleged posting of naked photos of his ex girlfriend on internet porn sites. Kane, of Jim Thorpe, PA, was arrested when a local Lower Merion woman, whose identity has not been revealed, contacted the police when a co-worker had called to her attention that he had seen pictures of her on various internet porn sites.
Kates and the victim had been involved in an “on and off” sexual relationship over the previous six years. The victim admitted to allowing Kane to use his cell phone to take naked photos of her. The woman also went on to tell police that a woman had been posing as her in internet chat rooms while also giving out her name and email address. Kane was released on $7,500 unsecured bail at his preliminary arraignment.
Wow. When things go bad they really go bad don’t they? As a Montgomery County Criminal Lawyer, I will tell you that 20 felony charges arising out of distributing nude pictures of your ex on the internet puts Kane in a lot of trouble. You probably don’t need me to tell you that. Kane is obviously wrong if he did what is alleged, I think the best lesson that can be learned from this is to be careful when you are letting others take pictures of you with a camera or recording equipment while in a compromising position.
While I realize that consenting adults have been known to make images of themselves within the context of a relationship, people should also remember that when people break up, someone usually gets angry. An angry ex armed with naked pictures of their former paramour can make for a very ticklish and embarrassing situation. I regard it as akin to holding a hand grenade. And in this case we have here, someone might actually wind up going to go jail.
